Keep notes short - a few words each - and use one note per idea, so you can move and recombine them as your model evolves.

Business Model Canvas FAQ

What is the Business Model Canvas?

A one-page strategic template created by Alexander Osterwalder. It describes how an organisation creates, delivers and captures value using nine building blocks.

Where should I start?

Most teams start with Customer Segments and Value Propositions on the right side, then Channels, Customer Relationships and Revenue Streams, and finally the left side: Key Resources, Activities, Partners and Cost Structure.

What are the colours for?

Use colours to link notes across blocks, for example one colour per customer segment, so you can see which value proposition, channel and revenue stream belongs to whom.

Can I share my canvas?

Export Markdown to paste into docs or wikis, save JSON to reload or send to a teammate, or print to PDF.

Is my canvas private?

Yes. It is stored only in this browser until you export it.
