How to use the split-screen composer

  1. Load two clipsDrop clip A and clip B into their slots.
  2. ArrangePick the layout, output size, fit mode, gap, start times and audio source.
  3. Preview and exportPlay from the start to check sync, then record and download a WebM.

How the composer works

Both clips play in hidden video elements while a canvas draws each one into its half of the frame, cropped to fill or letterboxed to fit. Every half second the tool checks whether clip B has drifted from clip A and nudges it back, so the two stay in sync during preview and recording.

Recording uses the canvas capture stream and MediaRecorder, mixing the selected audio through the Web Audio API. Export runs in real time, so a one-minute composition takes about a minute. Keep the tab visible while recording because browsers slow down background tabs.

Fill or fit

Fill crops each clip to remove bars; fit keeps the whole frame with letterboxing.

Trim starts

Offset either clip so the moments you want line up exactly.

Audio mix

Use one clip's sound, blend both, or export silent.

Split-screen composer FAQ

Are my videos uploaded?

No. Both clips play locally and are composed on a canvas in your browser.

Why is the export WebM?

Browsers record canvases with MediaRecorder, which produces WebM in most browsers (some produce MP4). Convert to MP4 with any converter if needed.

What happens when one clip is shorter?

Choose whether recording stops when the shorter clip ends or continues until the longer one ends, holding the last frame of the shorter clip.

Can I mix audio from both clips?

Yes. Choose "Both" and each clip is mixed at 70% volume to reduce clipping.

Why did my recording stutter?

High-resolution sources and large output sizes are demanding. Try 1280 x 720 output and keep the tab in the foreground.
