Blocks on the calendar are far harder to book over than good intentions.
Buffers around meetings stop you from planning focus into transition time.
Export the blocks as an .ics file for Google Calendar, Outlook or Apple Calendar.
Each meeting is padded with your buffer on both sides, lunch is blocked out, and overlapping busy times are merged. The remaining free gaps inside your workday are filled with focus blocks of your chosen length, separated by breaks. A block is only placed if the gap can fit at least your shortest useful block, because a 20-minute sliver rarely allows real deep work.
Earliest first suits people who think best in the morning. Longest gaps first gives you the most uninterrupted stretches. Latest first protects the end of the day for focused work after meetings are done.
A popular length that matches natural focus cycles.
10 to 15 minutes around meetings absorbs overruns and context switching.
Most people sustain only three to four hours of true deep work a day.
24-hour times like 13:00-14:00 and am/pm times like 1pm-2pm or 9:30am - 10am all work, followed by an optional title.
Download the .ics file, then in Google Calendar go to Settings, Import and choose the file. Outlook and Apple Calendar can open it directly.
Events use floating local time, so they appear at the same clock time in whatever time zone your calendar uses.
Your gaps may be shorter than the shortest useful block once buffers are added. Reduce the minimum, the buffer or the break.
