Vector-style space shooter

Asteroids Game

Rotate, thrust and fire with real momentum. Wrap around every edge, split the asteroids, and survive as many waves as you can.

Score 0 Best 0 Lives 3 Wave 1

Left/Right or A/D to rotate, Up/W to thrust, Space or tap Fire to shoot.

🚀

Real inertia physics

Thrust builds momentum in the direction you're facing, and it carries until you thrust again.

🔮

Screen wrap everywhere

Your ship, bullets and every asteroid reappear on the opposite edge instead of vanishing.

🏆

Endless increasing waves

Clear the field to start a bigger wave, and chase your saved best score.

How to play Asteroids

Master the drift, clear the field, and survive the waves.

  1. Rotate and thrustUse Left/Right or A/D to rotate and Up/W to thrust. Momentum carries between moves, so ease off early to stay in control.
  2. Fire and splitPress Space, click, or tap the Fire button to shoot. Large and medium asteroids split into smaller pieces when hit.
  3. Survive the wavesClear every asteroid to start a bigger wave. You have three lives, with a moment of invulnerability after each respawn.

About Asteroids

Asteroids helped define an entire genre by giving the player a ship with real physics instead of a simple grid-locked cursor. Momentum is the whole game: every thrust commits you to a direction for a while, so good runs come from planning your drift a few seconds ahead rather than reacting only to the nearest rock.

This version keeps the vector-style look, full screen wrap, and the classic split-on-hit asteroid behavior, with waves that keep growing the longer you survive.

Manage your momentum

Short thrust bursts are easier to control than holding thrust down, especially in a crowded field.

Clear from a safe distance

Shooting a large asteroid from far away gives you time to react to the two smaller pieces it splits into.

Use the wrap to escape

Screen wrap works for you too — drifting off one edge can be the fastest way out of a tight spot.

Prioritize the nearest threat

A small, fast asteroid on a collision course is usually more urgent to clear than a distant large one.

Asteroids FAQ

Questions about movement, splitting and waves.

How does the ship move?

The ship has real inertia — thrusting speeds you up in the direction you're facing, and you keep drifting in that direction until you thrust again to change course. There's no reverse thrust or automatic braking.

What happens when I shoot an asteroid?

Large and medium asteroids split into two smaller ones with random new directions when hit. Small asteroids are destroyed outright and add to your score.

What happens at the edges of the screen?

Everything wraps around. Your ship, your bullets and every asteroid that drifts off one edge reappears on the opposite edge.

What happens when I lose a life?

Colliding with an asteroid costs a life and respawns your ship at the center with a couple of seconds of blinking invulnerability so you can get your bearings.

How do waves work?

Clearing every asteroid on screen starts a new wave with more asteroids than the last, so the challenge builds the longer you survive.
