RPE Training Log

Record weight, reps and RPE for each set. The log turns every set into reps in reserve and an estimated one-rep max, charts your strength trend per lift and suggests loads for a target reps and RPE.

Why train with RPE

Autoregulation

RPE lets the load move with your daily readiness instead of a fixed percentage.

Comparable sets

Reps in reserve turns a 5 at RPE 7 and a 3 at RPE 9 into one strength estimate.

Visible progress

A rising e1RM line shows strength gains even when you never test a true max.

How to use the RPE log

  1. Log your setPick the date and lift, enter weight, reps and the RPE you felt, then press Log set.
  2. Watch the trendChoose a lift to see its best estimated 1RM per session on the chart.
  3. Plan the next setEnter target reps and RPE to get a suggested load from your latest session.

Reading RPE and reps in reserve

RPE in strength training is anchored to reps in reserve (RIR): how many more clean reps you could have done. RPE 10 is a true max effort, 9.5 means maybe one more rep, 9 means one more for sure, 8 means two, 7 means three. Below RPE 6 the scale gets hard to judge.

Because reps and reps in reserve add up to the reps you could have done to failure, any set can be converted to a percentage of your one-rep max. This log uses the widely used RPE percentage chart and interpolates half-point RPEs.

RPE 6-7

Speed and technique work; three to four reps in reserve.

RPE 8

Typical hypertrophy and volume work with two reps left.

RPE 9-10

Heavy top sets; use sparingly and with good technique.

RPE training log FAQ

What is RPE?

Rate of Perceived Exertion on a 1 to 10 scale. In lifting, RPE 10 means no more reps were possible, RPE 9 means one rep left in reserve, RPE 8 means two left, and so on.

How is the estimated 1RM calculated?

Reps plus reps in reserve gives the reps you could have done to failure. That number is looked up on a standard RPE percentage chart (100% for 1 rep, about 86% for 5, about 74% for 10) and the weight is divided by that percentage.

How accurate is the e1RM?

It is most reliable for sets of 1 to 8 reps at RPE 7 to 10. High-rep or low-RPE sets give rougher estimates, so use the trend rather than single numbers.

How does the load planner work?

It takes your best estimated 1RM from the most recent session of the chosen lift, finds the percentage for the target reps and RPE, and rounds to 2.5 kg or 5 lb.
