Click to upload a photo or drag and drop it here JPG, PNG or WebP · processed entirely in your browser, never uploaded

How it works

1

Upload your photo

Click the drop zone or drag a JPG, PNG, or WebP file onto it. The image loads into a canvas on your device for sampling.

2

Set the column count

Drag the columns slider from 40 to 200. Each cell's average brightness picks a character from a density ramp, from @ and # to plain spaces.

3

Copy or download

Optionally colorize the characters to match the photo, then copy the plain-text art to your clipboard or download it as a .txt file.

FAQ

Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. The photo is sampled and converted to text entirely inside your browser, so it is never uploaded anywhere.

How does the tool turn pixels into characters?

The photo is downsampled to a grid based on your chosen column count. Each cell's average brightness is mapped to a character from a density ramp, from dense symbols like @ and # for dark areas to a plain space for the brightest areas.

Can I get colored ASCII art instead of plain text?

Yes. Turn on the colorize option and each character is rendered in the average color sampled from that part of the photo, while the plain-text copy and download stay uncolored for easy pasting.
