Moving any of the four custom sliders switches the preview into Custom mode, which builds its own filter from your brightness, contrast, saturation and hue values instead of the preset. You can start from a preset's look and then move a slider to fine-tune it further, though the slider values reset when you do.
PNG preserves transparency (if your source image had any) with lossless compression and a larger file size. JPEG produces a smaller file using lossy compression, which is usually preferable for regular photos.
Very large photos are scaled down to a maximum of 1200px on the longest edge before filtering, which keeps the preview fast and responsive in the browser.
