Does this use live exchange rates?
No. This tool uses exchange rates that you enter and save locally, it never fetches live rates from the internet, so you're always in control of the numbers.
Where are my saved rates stored?
In your browser's local storage on this device only. They're not sent anywhere and will still be there next time you visit, unless you clear your browser data.
How is the converted amount calculated?
Each currency's rate is stored relative to your base currency. Converting divides the amount by the 'from' rate to get a base-currency value, then multiplies by the 'to' rate.
