About cooking measurement conversion

Recipe measurements mix US customary spoon-and-cup units with the metric milliliters and liters used almost everywhere else. All of the units on this page are volume measurements, and they convert to each other exactly: 1 US tablespoon is exactly 3 teaspoons, 1 US cup is exactly 16 tablespoons (236.5882365 mL), and 1 liter is exactly 1,000 milliliters.

What this tool deliberately does not do is convert volume into weight. A cup of flour, a cup of sugar and a cup of oil all weigh different amounts because they have different densities, so there is no single "cups to grams" factor that is accurate for every ingredient. For weight-based recipes, use a kitchen scale with the ingredient's specific density, or the general-purpose weight converter for units that are already mass.
