Why a freeform board helps brainstorming

A rigid list forces ideas into an order before you know which ones matter, which can quietly discourage the loose, half-formed thoughts that often lead somewhere useful. A freeform board lets ideas exist independently at first, then get grouped by dragging related notes together once patterns start to emerge, which is closer to how a physical sticky-note wall works in an in-person brainstorming session.
