How to use the birthday reminder tracker

Add everyone once and the list keeps reordering itself as the year goes on.

  1. Add a personName and birth date — the year is optional if you would rather not record it.
  2. Set your lead timeChoose how many days of warning you want before each birthday.
  3. Check the top of the listWhoever is next appears first, with the days remaining and the age they are turning.

About remembering birthdays

Birthdays are the classic case of information that is easy to store and easy to forget at exactly the wrong moment. Social networks used to do this job, and many people stopped keeping their own list as a result. A plain, private list that you control does the same job without depending on a platform you may leave.

Lead time matters more than the date

Knowing about a birthday on the day itself is often too late. A week of warning is what actually changes the outcome.

Year optional

Recording a birth year is useful for milestone birthdays, but plenty of people would rather you did not. The tracker works either way.

One list, not five

Contacts, calendars and social apps each hold part of the picture. A single list you maintain deliberately beats three partial ones.

Yours to keep

This list lives in your browser, not in a service that might change its terms or disappear.

Birthday reminder tracker FAQ

Questions about lead times, birth years and notifications.

Do I have to enter a birth year?

No. Leave it blank and the tracker still counts down to the date — it simply cannot tell you which birthday it is.

How does the lead time work?

Set how many days of warning you want for a person and their entry is flagged that far in advance, giving you time to arrange a card, a gift or a phone call.

What happens on 29 February birthdays?

In common years the countdown targets 1 March, which is the most widely used convention. In leap years it uses the real date.

Does this send me notifications?

No. It is a static page with no notification permissions and no server. Open it when you want to check, or bookmark it somewhere you look regularly.

Is the list private?

Yes. Names and dates are stored only in this browser's local storage on this device.
