Picking a name completely at random every time feels fair but usually is not: with enough picks, some people end up presenting far more often than others purely by chance. Shuffling the whole team into a queue and working through it in order guarantees everyone gets exactly one turn per round, while still keeping the order itself unpredictable and different each time the queue reshuffles.
Picking at the last moment keeps a bit of friendly unpredictability in who leads that day.
If someone is out for a stretch, the history makes it easy to see whose turn was skipped.
