How it works

1

Paste your data

Enter any list of numbers separated by commas, spaces, tabs or new lines.

2

Everything updates live

Mean, median, mode, range, variance and standard deviation recalculate as you type.

3

Read both variance types

See population and sample versions side by side so you can pick the right one for your data.

FAQ

What is the difference between population and sample standard deviation?

Population standard deviation divides by n and is used when your data is the entire group you care about. Sample standard deviation divides by n − 1 and is used when your data is a sample used to estimate a larger population.

What does it mean if there is more than one mode?

A data set can have more than one mode if two or more values tie for the highest frequency. If every value appears exactly once, the data set has no mode.

How should I separate my numbers?

You can separate values with commas, spaces, tabs or new lines — the calculator accepts any mix of these and ignores empty entries.
