How to create an XML sitemap

Enter your website URL, then paste one page URL or path on each line. Select Generate sitemap, review the visual structure and URL count, then download the XML file. Upload sitemap.xml to your website root and add its public URL to your robots.txt file or submit it through your search engine webmaster tools.

For individual page settings, use the advanced line format shown in the generator. For example, /blog/launch/ | weekly | 0.8 | 2026-07-25 sets the update frequency, priority and last-modified date for that URL only.

Sitemap generator FAQ

What is an XML sitemap?

An XML sitemap is a machine-readable list of important URLs on your website. It helps search engines find pages and understand when they were last updated.

How many URLs can one sitemap contain?

A single sitemap can include up to 50,000 URLs and must be no larger than 50 MB uncompressed. Larger sites should use multiple sitemap files and a sitemap index.

What do priority and change frequency mean?

They are optional hints about the relative importance of a page and how often it may change. Search engines may choose not to use these hints.

Does a sitemap guarantee that my pages are indexed?

No. It improves discovery, but search engines still decide which pages to crawl and index based on accessibility, quality and other signals.

Does this tool crawl my website or upload my URLs?

No. It creates XML from the URLs you provide and processes everything locally in your browser.
