Two families of paper standards dominate the world. ISO 216 defines the A, B and C series used almost everywhere outside North America, built on a constant 1:1.414 aspect ratio so each size folds neatly into the next. North America uses the ANSI and traditional sizes instead, where Letter, Legal and Tabloid follow no single ratio. This converter holds both families and translates between the units each industry prefers.
A0 is one square metre of paper. Each following size is the previous one folded in half, which keeps proportions identical from A0 down to A10.
B sizes sit between consecutive A sizes and suit posters and books. C sizes are envelope sizes designed to hold the matching A sheet.
Letter, Legal, Tabloid and the ANSI A-E engineering series are defined in inches, so their millimetre values carry decimals.
A paper size has no pixel dimension until you pick a resolution. The pixel figures here are simply inches multiplied by your chosen DPI.

A4 measures 210 x 297 mm, which is 21 x 29.7 cm or 8.27 x 11.69 inches. At 300 DPI that is 2480 x 3508 pixels, and at 72 DPI it is 595 x 842 points.
US Letter is 215.9 x 279.4 mm (8.5 x 11 in), so it is about 6 mm wider and 18 mm shorter than A4. A document laid out for one will not print edge to edge on the other without scaling.
Every ISO 216 size has a 1:1.414 (square root of 2) aspect ratio. Folding a sheet in half across its long side produces the next size down with the exact same proportions, which is why A4 is half of A3.
Multiply the size in inches by your print resolution. Commercial printing usually wants 300 DPI, office laser printing is fine at 150-300 DPI, and large-format posters viewed from a distance often work at 100-150 DPI.
A point is exactly 1/72 of an inch. PDF and PostScript files describe page sizes in points, which is why A4 shows up as 595 x 842 pt in most PDF tools.
