How does the invert actually work?

Every pixel's red, green, and blue values are replaced with 255 minus their original value using the canvas ImageData API, producing a true photographic negative.

How do I compare the original and inverted image?

Drag the divider left and right over the preview. Everything to the left shows the inverted version and everything to the right shows the original.

Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. The inversion happens entirely inside your browser using canvas, so your photo never leaves your device.
