About sessionStorage and this counter

This tool deliberately uses sessionStorage instead of localStorage, because that's the technically correct choice for "how many times has this tab been reloaded this session." sessionStorage is scoped to a single browser tab (or more precisely, a single top-level browsing context) and is automatically wiped when that tab or window closes. That means duplicating the tab, opening the tool fresh in a new tab, or restarting your browser all correctly reset the count to zero — while simply reloading, hitting F5, or clicking the address bar and pressing Enter all correctly increment it. Nothing is ever sent to a server; the entire counter lives and dies inside your browser.
