FAQ

What is BMR?

BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) is an estimate of how many calories your body burns at complete rest just to maintain basic functions like breathing and circulation.

How is BMR calculated here?

This calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, widely considered one of the more accurate formulas: for men, BMR = 10×weight(kg) + 6.25×height(cm) − 5×age + 5; for women, subtract 161 instead of adding 5.

What do the activity levels mean?

Each activity level multiplies your BMR to estimate total daily calories: sedentary (little exercise) ×1.2, light activity ×1.375, moderate activity ×1.55, active ×1.725, and very active ×1.9.
