Angles are measured differently depending on the field: everyday geometry and navigation use degrees, mathematics and physics use radians because they simplify calculus, surveying and some European countries use gradians, and GPS coordinates and astronomy traditionally use degrees-minutes-seconds (DMS).
All three numeric units relate exactly: a full turn is 360 degrees, 2π radians, or 400 gradians. So 1 degree = π/180 radians ≈ 0.0174533 rad, and 1 gradian = 0.9 degrees exactly. DMS is simply a different way of writing a degree value — the whole degrees stay the same, and the fractional part is broken into 60 minutes and 60 seconds.
Radians make derivative and integral formulas for trigonometric functions come out clean, which is why math and physics default to them.
A gradian splits a right angle into 100 parts instead of 90, which simplifies some decimal-based surveying calculations.
Latitude and longitude are traditionally written in DMS, like 40° 26' 46" N, though decimal degrees are now also common.
