An acronym is built by taking the first letter of each significant word in a phrase and reading the result as a single unit, which is exactly what this generator automates. The one design decision that changes the output the most is what to do with short connector words — articles like "a" and "the," conjunctions like "and" and "or," and short prepositions like "of," "for," "to" and "in." Real-world acronyms are inconsistent about this: NASA keeps every word of National Aeronautics and Space Administration except "and," while FYI happily keeps "for." That's why this tool ships with a toggle rather than a fixed rule — Skip Minor mode drops the same small set of connector words that most acronyms tend to drop, and Include All mode uses every single word, letter for letter, which is useful when you want a literal first-letter reading. Once the letters are chosen, the tool shows two common formats side by side: plain ALLCAPS like NASA, and the period-separated style like N.A.S.A. that's still common in more formal or older-style writing. As a bonus, every result gets checked against a small built-in dictionary of common English words, because some of the best acronyms are the ones that happen to spell something memorable on their own, the way CARE, HOPE or FAST do.
Reads the first letter of each chosen word, in order.
Toggle whether short connector words count toward the acronym.
ALLCAPS and period-separated, each with its own copy button.
It takes the first letter of each word in your phrase, in order, and joins them together in uppercase to form the acronym.
When minor words are skipped, short words like a, the, of, for and and are left out of the acronym, matching how most real-world acronyms are built; switch it on to include every word instead.
The generated acronym is compared against a small built-in dictionary of common English words, and if it matches one exactly, the tool flags it as spelling a real word.
No. The dictionary is intentionally small and covers common short English words, so an accidental match to a rarer word may not be flagged.
No. Everything is generated instantly in your browser using plain JavaScript, and your phrase is never uploaded or saved.
